CloudFerro with approval of the European Commission to get aid for green cloud services
CloudFerro S.A., a Polish cloud services provider and the largest company in the Polish space sector with approval of the European Commission to get aid for green cloud services.
CloudFerro S.A., a Polish cloud services provider and the largest company in the Polish space sector is one of 19 European entities that have obtained approval from the European Commission to receive public aid for innovations in cloud services within a framework project called Important Project of Common European Interest Next Generation Cloud Infrastructure and Services (IPCEI CIS).
The 22 million EUR financing is to be allocated to CloudFerro’s GATEWAY project aimed at the implementation of cloud and edge computing services. The solution will allow research centres and commercial entities to use geospatial and other imagery data in their value chains, and process it in a sustainable manner through the use of data centres powered by green energy.
“The GATEWAY project will enable entities operating in various economic sectors to use information from the combination of satellite, aerial, in-situ data and computer simulations on a large scale. This will be extremely valuable for scientific research, R&D and commercialization in the IT sector, environmental analyses, as well as local and regional management. " says Stanisław Krzyżanowski, responsible for implementing the project at CloudFerro.
The company's proposal also assumes the use of an innovative, distributed approach to operations and the provision of cloud services. Decentralization of data centres will allow for increasing the speed of operations by using more access points for computing. This solution will enable to perform advanced technological research leading to the development and launch of next generation cloud services which are reliable, safe and, most importantly, environmentally friendly.
Thanks to the use of edge computing (in distributed centres located in various locations in Poland and Europe), it will be possible to analyse data in places powered by green energy, reducing the carbon footprint in line with so-called carbon aware computing, which involves creating software and computer technologies in environmentally friendly manner without harming our planet.
The total value of the 3-year project will be 28 million EUR. GATEWAY is run independently by CloudFerro, as part of the European mechanism IPCEI-CIS to support research and development projects in terms of infrastructure and next-generation cloud services.
