CloudFerro contributes to Civil Security Hub Poland, part of ESA's ERS programme

CloudFerro, a leading provider of Europe’s sovereign cloud computing services, is contributing to the Civil Security Hub Poland – the first entity in Europe being developed under the Space Resilience Nodes initiative of the European Space Agency (ESA), aimed at supporting the use of satellite data in crisis management. The company is responsible for providing cloud services enabling the processing and dissemination of satellite data.
Civil Security Hub Poland serves as a link between the space sector, technology providers and end users – rescue services and public institutions. Within the initiative, solutions are being developed to enable the rapid acquisition, analysis and sharing of information based on satellite imagery, drone data and other geospatial sources. The Hub provides maps, analyses and reports that support decision-making in crisis situations such as floods, fires or environmental disasters.
The partners co-creating Civil Security Hub Poland include the Crisis Information Centre of the Space Research Centre of the Polish Academy of Sciences (CBK PAN), CloudFerro, Warsaw University of Technology and the European Space Foundation.
From data to decisions: infrastructure for satellite data processing
As part of Civil Security Hub Poland, CloudFerro is responsible for building and providing cloud infrastructure and tools based on machine learning and artificial intelligence, enabling the secure processing of large volumes of data and their integration from multiple sources – including satellite data and drone imagery – for crisis response purposes. The company will deliver and operate an environment for the rapid cataloguing, processing and dissemination of geospatial data, in line with European standards and requirements related to sovereignty and information security.
“In projects related to security, the availability of data, trust in the data, and control over the entire information chain – from data acquisition, through processing and analysis, to delivery to the end user – are crucial. In crisis situations there is no room for uncertainty regarding the origin of the data, its integrity or its availability. This is why it is essential that solutions used in the area of civil security are developed by national and European entities and remain under our infrastructural and operational control. Building our own capabilities – based on European programmes such as European Resilience from Space (ERS) – is not only a matter of technology, but a real component of the resilience of both individual states and the European Union as a whole,” says Monika Krzyżanowska, Chief Business Development Officer at CloudFerro.
Experience from European space programmes supporting civil security
Civil Security Hub Poland also demonstrates how CloudFerro’s experience gained from large European Earth observation projects – such as the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem and Destination Earth – can be translated into solutions used directly by public administration and services responsible for public safety, becoming part of the broader architecture of European Resilience from Space.
“For years, CloudFerro has been delivering strategic projects for European institutions in the area of satellite data processing and dissemination, building sovereign cloud infrastructure for programmes such as Copernicus and other initiatives related to Earth observation and the development of a Digital Twin of the planet. Our experience in operating large-scale data repositories, ensuring their continuous availability and compliance with European regulations provides a solid foundation for acting as a technology partner in projects of importance for public security,” adds Monika Krzyżanowska.
Civil Security Hub Poland is an example of cooperation between the space sector, the scientific community and public institutions aimed at the practical use of satellite technologies in the field of civil security. For CloudFerro, participation in the initiative means contributing to the development of the national ecosystem for the use of Earth observation data and supporting the creation of tools that help services and public administration respond more effectively to threats.
About CS Hub Poland:
Civil Security Hub Poland works to implement innovative solutions based on satellite technologies for rescue services, civil protection, and crisis management. The Hub connects technology providers with end users, enabling the testing, optimisation, and operational use of solutions based on satellite and drone data.
