CloudFerro is strengthening its engagement in the defence sector and developing technologies for secure data processing in areas critical to national security. At the 34th International Defence Industry Exhibition (MSPO) in Kielce, the Polish company showcased solutions designed for defence and security applications, including Bastion, its mobile data processing environment for operational use. CloudFerro Bastion received the Distinction of the Operational Commander of the Branches of the Armed Forces during the exhibition.

CloudFerro is developing solutions for the defence sector, services responsible for national security, and critical infrastructure operators, building on experience gained from providing infrastructure for strategic European space programmes and from storing and processing large volumes of satellite data.

At this year’s MSPO, the company focused on solutions that enable data to be securely stored, processed and analysed close to where operations take place, including in environments with limited or unavailable connectivity.

One of the key directions is combining CloudFerro’s own capabilities with complementary technologies in areas such as satellite systems, AI, cybersecurity and secure communications.

National security increasingly depends on the ability to collect, process and use data. Information is becoming one of the key operational assets. This means that alongside traditional defence capabilities, digital infrastructure that enables data to be securely analysed and used for decision-making is becoming equally important. Our ambition is to develop Polish technological capabilities in areas critical to national security, drawing on the experience we have gained through strategic projects for European public institutions and the space sectors.

Framework for potential cooperation with Hanwha Systems

The non-binding and non-exclusive MOU with Hanwha Systems establishes a framework for exploring potential future cooperation. Areas under consideration include satellite systems, Earth observation data, ISR and the use of artificial intelligence for data analysis in security and defence applications.

The potential cooperation would bring together complementary capabilities of both companies. Hanwha Systems has expertise in satellite technologies and AI systems, while CloudFerro provides capabilities in sovereign cloud infrastructure, ground segment solutions, and the storage and processing of large volumes of data. The companies will explore opportunities to combine these capabilities in solutions related to the processing and analysis of satellite data for security and defence applications.

Bastion: data processing where operations take place

At MSPO, CloudFerro showcased Bastion, a mobile, containerised environment that enables data to be securely processed and analysed directly where operations take place.

The solution is designed for the Polish Armed Forces, services responsible for national security, and critical infrastructure operators. It can also operate in environments with limited or unavailable connectivity, enabling local processing of information from sources including satellites, unmanned aerial vehicles, sensors and reconnaissance systems, as well as the use of advanced analytics and AI.

At the 34th MSPO, CloudFerro Bastion received the Distinction of the Operational Commander of the Branches of the Armed Forces. For CloudFerro, the distinction is an important signal that the technologies and capabilities developed by its Polish team can address concrete operational needs related to security and defence. The distinction was accepted on behalf of CloudFerro by Stanisław Dałek, CTO of CloudFerro.

When designing Bastion, we started with the conditions in which technology needs to operate during real-world operations. Connectivity may be limited or unavailable, while data from satellites, drones or sensors still needs to be processed and analysed to support decision-making. That is why Bastion provides computing and analytical resources directly where operations take place, giving users control over their data and the environment in which it is processed. This distinction is particularly important to our team because it shows that the direction we have taken addresses real operational needs.

CloudFerro is also expanding its cooperation with Poland’s military academic community. The company has entered the implementation phase of the agreement signed in June with the Polish Air Force University in Dęblin. Installation and adaptation of a containerised technology environment to the University’s requirements are under way, and the first University teams have already completed training on CloudFerro systems. The environment will be used, among other purposes, to test cloud technologies, process radio-frequency observation data and operate in conditions isolated from external networks.

Polish capabilities for European security

For more than a decade, CloudFerro has been developing and operating cloud infrastructure for Europe's largest Earth observation and environmental data programmes, working with organisations including the European Commission, ESA, EUMETSAT and ECMWF.

Projects such as the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem and the Destination Earth Data Lake demonstrate that Europe already possesses the technologies and expertise required to build secure, scalable and operationally proven data platforms. The next step is to apply this experience more broadly across future European initiatives supporting security, defence and the resilience of critical infrastructure.
